Marty graduated from Georgia State University with a BBA in 1977. He is a successful business owner in Fayetteville, GA. Marty oversaw the growth of the family business, assuming control in 1977, and growing it from 2 employees to 18. His company serves customers throughout the Southeastern United States and provides insurance, risk management, and investment services to individuals and businesses.
Marty and his wife Debbie have been married and living in Tyrone for 40 years. They have six children and seven grandchildren. They met, were married and attended FBC Atlanta where Marty was ordained as a deacon and taught Sunday School. In 1996 they moved their membership to Fayetteville First Baptist Church. He currently serves as a deacon and has taught Sunday School classes for over 16 years. He and Debbie actively support the Southwest Christian Care Ministries and the Fayette Pregnancy Resource Center.
Marty first worked in politics with his father on Barry Goldwater’s presidential campaign and subsequently with the Ronald Reagan presidential campaign. In 2008 he served on Mike Huckabee’s Presidential Campaign Team100. In 2009 Marty continued his work in politics and became involved in the South Atlanta Tea Party as well as other Tea Party groups around the state. He is well known for his speeches concerning taxes and state sovereignty and has spoken to crowds of well over 1,000 on these issues.
Since 2009, Marty has served in various leadership positions within the Republican Party: Fayette County District Representative, 3rd Vice chair and 1st Vice-chair of the 3rd Congressional District. In 2012, he served as a delegate to the National Republican Convention in Tampa, Florida.
Marty has served in the Georgia State Senate since 2015.
